🏫 About Kings Centre of Learning (KCL)

Empowering young people through flexible, therapeutic education.

At Kings Centre of Learning (KCL), we provide specialist education and alternative provision for learners who require support beyond the classroom. We work with learners across the South East and London who face a range of barriers to learning — including anxiety, trauma, SEND, EHCP needs, or social and emotional challenges.

Whether a learner is struggling in school, has been excluded, is awaiting a specialist placement, or needs a therapeutic re-engagement pathway — KCL provides a safe, structured, and flexible environment to help them progress.

🧠 Our Therapeutic Approach

We believe that education and well-being go hand in hand. That’s why KCL integrates mental health support throughout its programmes — from daily traffic-light mood trackers to the direct involvement of Therapeutic Educators in our Therapeutic Plus tiers.

At KCL, we specialise in supporting children and young people with complex needs, including those transitioning from Tier 4 inpatient care and intensive CAMHS involvement. Our therapeutic model is shaped by the nationally recognised THRIVE Framework, which promotes a needs-led, person-centred approach to mental health and well-being.

Our provision goes beyond education — we create calm, trauma-informed environments where learners feel safe, heard, and empowered to grow. Through personalised learning, therapeutic keyworking, and integrated well-being activities, we help each learner build confidence, independence, and resilience.

We work in partnership with families, local authorities, and NHS services to ensure seamless transitions, particularly for those re-engaging with education following periods of crisis, exclusion, or clinical intervention. Where appropriate, we also contribute to Care, Education and Treatment Reviews (CETRs) to advocate for learner-centred outcomes.

This approach underpins all of our alternative provision programmes, from our Therapeutic Learning Seats to our Life Skills and Employability Pathways — supporting progress in learning while nurturing emotional recovery and long-term well-being.

This makes KCL one of the few AP providers in the UK offering clinically informed digital and blended education pathways.
